HIEARCHY OF NEEDS

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.  We are not going to discuss Maslow very much because there are better theories available today.  However, Maslow paved the way for these theories and is well remembered for his contributions.  For this reason it seems reasonable to take a moment and touch on his work here.

Take a look at the above chart.  Notice that the progression of society can be seen in it.  For example, when our American for-fathers came to our land they were initially most interested in physiological needs.  As our people have established society and government we have progressed to our modern day where the average American no longer worries about food and water, but is concerned with self-actualization: human rights, activism, art, etc.

Assignment Question:

1) How does this theory change the way that you look at society, humanity, etc.?

2) List one Biblical account that can demonstrate one of Maslow's five levels.
